General Filters, Inc. Enhanced Focus on Quality

For over 75 years General Filters, Inc. has offered residential heating fuel oil filters, and for over 50 years residential whole house indoor air quality products like humidifiers, dehumidifiers, air cleaners, ventilation systems and UV Air Purifiers. Serving USA and Canada, General Filters, Inc. mission statement includes statements like: “We provide superior quality products and services to the customers we serve.” and “We achieve growth and long term stability through teamwork, continuous improvement and at all times striving for excellence”. In recent months the company has reorganized their efforts to more fully embrace the claims made in their mission statement by implementing lean manufacturing and 6’s (sort, store, shine, standardize, sustain and safety) throughout the organization. The hopes are that such programs will improve efficiencies, reduce waste and standardize processes; all resulting in a higher quality product for consumers. Plant Manager Terry Yarber states: “It’s not about achieving one final goal, but rather knowing no matter what we achieve we will continually seek to do better. This includes not only the plant but also our front offices.”
 
In addition to such efforts the company has also engaged a new Quality Manager, Diane Halsey. Diane came to General Filters with over 25 years in Quality Assurance and Quality Systems Management. Diane states: “My focus is to implement, maintain and strive for continuous improvement by challenging every individual throughout the organization to strive for excellence. It’s through persistent and consistent behavior that we will produce reliable, quality products for our customers.”
 
Diane concludes: “We’re looking to eliminate any item or activity that does not add value while also opening doors to other more value-added efforts. My goal is that customers know they are purchasing quality products and have the confidence that we’ll be here in the long run to service them”.
